We recognizes that employees are an important strength of this Bank. The Bank will attract, train and retain employees with strong ethical values, technical competence, and high standards for customer service and goal achievement.
As a local bank, we recognize our unique obligation to participate in and remain a source of financial support to help community organizations.
The Bank was founded on March 28, 1888 by a group of North Abington businessmen, headed by Moses N. Arnold, a prominent shoe manufacturer. Mr. Arnold became the first President with Lewis A. Crossett, another prominent shoe manufacturer, as the Vice President, and E. P. Reed, the founder of the now defunct Reed Lumber Co., as Treasurer.
The Bank was originally located at 196 North Avenue on the third floor of what is now the Old Town News. The Bank moved across the street to the “Standish Block” which burned down in 1977. The Bank remained in the Standish Block until 1927, when it moved next door to the Winthrop Block.
The present building was opened in December 1956 as the new home of the North Abington Co-operative Bank.
Moving Forward – From North Abington Co-operative Bank to Abington Bank
In August 2007, the Bank had a special meeting of its shareholders and voted to change the name of the bank from North Abington Co-operative Bank to Abington Bank. The name change took effect January 2008.
As part of the Bank's celebration of 120 years of service, we have introduced a new logo, refined customer service practices, and have been offering new products – all a part of our attempt to fulfill our mission of becoming the preferred local alternative to other banks in the area.
Earning your trust. Exceeding your expectations.
